Meet Amanda: Clinical Nurse Specialist (Cancer Care)

We are pleased to share this blog from Amanda Durrant, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Cancer Care. Amanda is attending the workshops for the Trans Aware Cancer Care project with her information, advice and support around all things cancer.

“Well here I am writing my first ever blog!  I am excited to be part of the Trans Aware Cancer Care (TACC) project and really looking forward to being part of the workshops and hearing your stories and any ways or ideas you have on how cancer care can be more trans aware.

As a nurse I have a good knowledge of cancer from diagnosis, treatment and beyond, giving information and support to patients, family, friends and contacts who are receiving cancer care.  But, an illness is only ever a very small part of a person so it is essential we understand the individual we are helping.  I am especially delighted to be involved again in a Community Research healthcare project because we are asking you directly about your experiences and seeking out your views and preferences.  For the most helpful and reliable information it is best to ask those who know from their personal experience and listen openly to all that is conveyed.

As a healthcare professional I believe that this project has the potential, through shared experience, to make a start to help us provide good, personalised care to all.  I hope that you feel able to share any information with us in which ever format you prefer at a workshop, in a visual creation or words. To communicate your personal views anonymously please click here to see how you can help

Just in case reading about this project has caused any thoughts about this subject these organisations can offer support”:
