What I’d Like to Say: Our reflections on the first workshop as we move in to phase 2.
Last week our fantastic community researchers attended the first phase two workshop of the What I’d Like to Say project. Katie and Rosie were joined by Lucy, who is our Project Support Officer, and Tracy who has a huge amount of experience and knowledge around cancer care and services.
The workshop was with the amazing MS Centre in Dorset. This was our second visit, as we also went along as part of the phase one work.
The purpose was to hear solutions and ideas that would improve cancer care for people affected by MS. We spoke to lots of lovely, friendly people who made some great suggestions that we will be sharing with the NHS.
It was brilliant to see so many people enjoying the crafts we prepared- using feathers, sequins and pens to visualise their thoughts on cancer services on lightbulb templates. As well as crafts, the team spoke at length with lots of people over cake and tea.

Some of the ideas that came out of the session really will make a difference in the future. We heard ideas about things like making mammograms more accessible and having music played during scans to help patients relax.
The team are looking ahead to our next workshop on 20th May with Bournemouth and Poole Lymphoedema/Lipoedema Support Group. We will update you after!
If you’d like to find out more about the project or if you’d like to talk to us about any solutions you have for improving cancer care for disabled and neurodivergent groups, we would love to hear from you. Click here to drop us an email.
